About Fiji
Bula!
When you come to Fiji you will hear ‘Bula!’ everywhere. It literally means “life” or “happiness” and it’s used in place of “Hello”, “Cheers”; it is said with a smile, and you’ll hear it dozens of times in a day.
Fiji is not as far away as you might think. It is the middle of the South Pacific, and you get to cross a dateline, but it’s only a 10 hour non-stop flight from Los Angeles or San Francisco, and only 9 hours to come back. Fiji Airways flies daily right around midnight from Los Angeles.
333 islands, 13 archipelagos, with year-round tropical warmth, it’s truly heaven on earth. There are two seasons in Fiji: warm (May-November) and even warmer (December – April). It is Mecca for scuba divers, widely known as the soft coral capital of the world, you’ll be mesmerized by its underwater beauty. Even Jean Michel Cousteau, the son of the legendary Jaques Cousteau, opened a resort bearing his name, with a dive center on the island of Vanua Levu.

Fiji Has Something For Everyone

Fijian people will steal your heart with their genuine smiles, they will welcome you with the song everywhere you go. Get to know the locals and experience Fijian customs through cultural-based activities. Visiting a Fijian village is a unique way to learn more about Fiji’s rich culture and further engage with its warm people.
In Mamanuca archipelago, famous for it’s breathtaking sunsets, we have Monuriki uninhabited island, where Tom Hanks filmed the movie Castaway. You can easily visit the island and spend a morning exploring it, with just a short boat ride from most of the Mamanuca resorts. We even have 2 resorts with it’s own uninhabited island only a 5 minute boat ride away, where you can arrange to spend a night on the island with nobody around, but in comfort and luxury.
Mamanuca archipelago is where we also find the Fijian Crested Iguana, who was thought to have been extinct, and is still critically endangered. Based at one of the local resorts, the Iguana Sanctuary is delighted to welcome more new captive-bred hatchlings, in their ‘natural’ environment. The famous reptile is proudly displayed on Fijian $5 currency. Guests are able to see the new and existing iguana family members.

You Will Love The Culture of Fiji
If you get a chance, participate in kava ceremony. In Fiji, a kava ceremony is a ritual in every village you will enters well as a key feature your Fiji resort ’things to do list’. It is commonplace for Fijian families and friends to gather together on a daily basis and enjoy kava together. It is what Fijians commonly refer to as ‘Fiji time’.
Fiji offers a variety of cuisine despite being a remote destination. Aside from seafood, Fiji has international cuisine ranging from Italian to Japanese. For some traditional Fijian food, try lovo: meats and vegetables wrapped in banana leaves and baked directly on hot stones. I loved the variety of different foods available and exotic spices; my personal favorite was Fijian seafood curry. In some resorts, you can participate in a culinary demonstration that has remained the same for centuries.
Coconuts are a big part of Fijian culture – the tree of life provides a diverse range of benefits and uses. The soil in Fiji is rich in unique minerals and nutrients, making the coconuts some of the best in the world. Natural resources are valuable and used with gratitude. Islanders see coconuts as precious gifts from the Earth. Even the age-old legends and myths that are whispered throughout Fijian culture hold stories of coconuts. One tales says that coconuts have eyes, that they watch people passing from their trees and decide which individuals to fall on. Legend has it that if you receive the coconut bomb, bad luck will follow you for the next three days. Heads up! Pure Fiji is a line of natural bath and body care products made with pure coconut oil and flower extracts. Make sure you bring some home.

Your Trip To Fiji
My most asked question about the resorts is if there is an all-inclusive resort. The answer is not in a true sense of an all-inclusive like we have in the Caribbean and Mexico. Most of the resorts are European Plan (no meals included) or Bed and Breakfast, but we have a good number of resorts that include all meals and drinks except alcohol and hand-crafted smoothies. Alcoholic drinks are actually quite reasonably priced. With New Zealand in the close proximity, fantastic wines are widely available.
We have a few resorts that are truly on their own private islands, and still relatively affordable. Some of them will include your inter island flight, speedboat or a seaplane arrival at no charge. One of my favorite Fijian partners once told me: “You know the expensive FIJI water you buy in the store? We flush our toilets with it.”
Tipping is not common in Fiji, but the exceptional service can always be rewarded. Most of the resort staff live in nearby villages, and guests can contribute to the communal fund of the villages at check out.
During the 2020 and 2021 pandemic Fiji was closed to visitors for almost 20 months. December 1st, 2021 Fiji reopened for tourism, and is offering great packages and specials to incite more and more people to fall in love with this magical place.

Royal Davui is a breathtaking oasis with only 16 villas, and Kokomo Private Island Resort will include a thrilling arrival in a hydroplane. Royal Davui’s Director of Sales and my dear friend Chris Southwick, whose family has owned the island for five generations once told me “You know the expensive FIJI water you buy in the store? We flush our toilets with it.”

What Our Clients Say

“DC is a amazing! She organized my bachelorette party in Puerto Villarta and my honeymoon in Moorea. And let me tell you, I did not make it easy. Both were during COVID and there were so many last minute cancellations and changing protocols, but she pulled both off. Not only did they both happen, they were incredible unforgettable experiences.
She was there every step of the way and in constant communication. There was a hurricane in Puerto Villarta when we were there and not only did she make sure we were safe, she rearranged our travel at a moment notice when the roads were damaged to the airport. My honeymoon was literally the stuff of dreams. I cannot recommend DC enough!!
