The year of the sea grass…

DC Vekic blog August 14, 2018

This has been one of the toughest years with so much sea grass floating all over the Caribbean Sea. It devastated all our sugar white beaches from Barbados, Dominican Republic, Mexico …

This is definitely nowhere near as bad as it got, but as much as we had cleaning crews on sire there was not much to be done. The seagrass could be seen from the airplane all over. Over the water bungalows in Mexico and Jamaica look like they are standing in flood water.

It is just one of those years… We don’t have seagrass in Costa Rica, but Costa Rica is mostly covered in black sand. Cabo and Puerto Vallarta are on the Pacific Coast where we don’t have this issue, but everyone has already been there..

I think this article describes it the best, I did not want to go with such dramatic photos,  although everything they posted it quite true… Although the article is about Playa Del Carmen, it’s quite accurate about an entire Caribbean and we have a link to the current seagrass map… THE SUMMER OF SEAWEED is an accurate description

Expedia will never tell you about it, so always use your travel professional to plan your travel. We can even price-match…

DC’s Second Annual Big D Bash

DC Vekic blog June 21, 2017

A great event with a funny name! I was actually told people googled what Big D Bash meant, when I announced it last year, and couldn’t figure it out. Here is a few pics from our 1st DC’s Big D at the Breathless Cabo last year…

It started as an idea for my own personal divorce trip, but then a friend said “Don’t use the word DIVORCE, it sounds negative.” Especially because I was inviting singles and couples alike. So I thought: “Ok, no DIVORCE.. let’s make it a Big D.”

But apparently, I was the only one who had no clue what else big D meant, but since I already ordered T-shirts, we decided to run with it anyway, and by now we are all used to it.

My personal divorce after 17 years made me think about that first trip without your significant other. I thought it was important to create a trip where a person who just recently got divorced, would feel comfortable, and would have a built in support from their friends and family. We had couples, singles, everyone was invited as long as they were over 21! It was a last minute plan, but we had a blast.

Tahiti and Her Islands

DC Vekic blog January 9, 2017

Flying into a majestic sunset into Bora Bora airport, you can see rows and rows of the over-the-water bungalows in the glistening lagoon. It is truly an awe-inspiring site. You get it.

img_1491

Bora Bora water is said to have 42 different shades of the color blue in her waters, and it is certainly true.

Only an 8 hour flight from LAX, but ‘in the middle of nowhere’, Tahitian Islands are a true slice of paradise. Half-way between Chile and Australia, under the govenrning of France, makes this location  a bit difficult as almost EVERYTHING has to be imported. Which is certainly a factor when it comes to how much things cost when you’re there. And you do have to prepare yourself to spend some money.

img_1600

We all know that the picture is worth a thousand words, but it still can not do justice to the Tahitian Islands, as everywhere you look you see ‘a screensaver’. At the end of your trip, whatever money you ended up spending will be well worth it, as THIS is the place for the bucket list, ultimate honeymoon/romance destination, and the place you will think of on your deathbed as one of the prettiest you’ve seen.

img_1756

This is the place that gave us our first over-the-water bungalow, exactly 50 years ago. The new overthewater bungalows in Mexico and Jamaica, can certainly rival the luxury of the Tahitian bungalows, but can never come close to the lagoon water, coral and fish swimming around.

img_1319

Still, with the breathtaking natural beauty, Tahitian people will make the biggest impact. Always smiling, welcoming and gentle.

img_1610

Tiare, the national flower of Tahiti, is all over the islands. Flowers, in general are everywhere, and that is usually your first contact with Tahiti, when someone puts a lei of fragrant flowers around your neck.

img_1650

I’m even throwing in a personal photo on a boat.

img_0818

Anyway you look at it, Tahitian Islands are a place that will have a profound impact on everyone who visits.
